A New Look for the Future

ESPI Reveals Updated Visual Identity

We are excited to unveil our new visual identity on the occasion of being granted Quasi-International Organisation (QuIO) status by our host country, Austria. This new visual identity is a visible symbol of this new institutional chapter, as we reach new heights, underscoring our bold ambitions as Europe’s independent think tank for space.

At the heart of this transformation is a new colour palette, carefully chosen to reflect our energy, dynamism, and forward-looking mentality as we embark on this new era.

Even before our status change, we envisioned ESPI as more than a think tank – which of course requires more than a standard palette. ESPI’s status change marks not only a greater potential audience, but also a greater intellectual responsibility to attune policymakers and laypeople alike to the developments in space, and the opportunities for Europe in the space sector.

This QuIO status shift comes at a time when Europe stands on the precipice of an expansion in its space capabilities to become a full-fledged space power at the true scale of its economic capacity and talent. It is up to us – at ESPI, but also in our parliaments, in our classrooms, and in our everyday lives – to guide Europe to that summit.

Like the central figure in artist Caspar David Friedrich’s 1818 painting Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, ESPI has emerged from the cloud cover and is looking ahead to a horizon on which Europe exists as a strong actor and trusted global partner. While developing our colour palette, we had this pivotal, aspirational flavour in mind.

Fanciful visions aside, we recognise that colour palettes are simple things. They alone cannot convince the policymakers of Europe to put space first. They can, however, provide an excellent initial glimpse into the deeper world of complex ideas in our research areas. These colours which we have chosen are an open door through which – we hope – you will begin to see the same burgeoning dynamism and optimism in European space that we do.

We have developed a contemporary, energetic palette that communicates our creativity and vibrance both as a team and in our work at ESPI.

This new colour refresh goes beyond the digital space ESPI occupies and will be reflected in our publications and our presence at events both in Europe and abroad.  Core colours will be visible throughout ESPI communications and publications, across thematic streams:

Razzmatazz and Aquamarine will be complemented by a striking cast of alternate colours from around the colour wheel. Our alternates will be used to enhance our communications in specific thematic areas and and future ESPI-hosted events.

This visual refresh is more than a change in design. It marks a milestone in ESPI’s journey: a celebration of our institutional growth and the expanding scope of our mission. As we look to the future, our new colours will serve as a beacon for the ideas, dialogue, and partnerships that will continue to define ESPI’s work.
