Bringing space to tech sovereignty debate at the Brussels Economic Security Forum 2026

Just a few days after the release of European Commission’s Tech Sovereignty Package, ESPI had the opportunity to underline the criticality of space in Europe’s push for tech sovereignty, in a policy debate at EPC’s annual Brussels Economic Security Forum (BESF).

While space does not feature prominently in the Tech Sovereignty Package, our Director’s intervention at BESF 2026 emphasised:

  • Space is vital for Europe’s future and central to European sovereignty
  • Next to chips, AI or cloud, European policy action in Brussels needs to sustain and reinforce the emerging momentum in European capitals
  • While Europe may have missed the windows of opportunity in other breakthrough tech fields in the past, the “space” window is still out there for Europe to seize.

Video recording of our Director’s keynote is available at BESF Summit 2026 (starting from 1:39h).
