ESPI and SPACETIDE sign Memorandum of Understanding

In January 2026, the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SPACETIDE, formalising a structured cooperation to promote international dialogue on the space economy, space policy and governance. The partnership reflects a shared interest in strengthening global engagement across policy, industry and research communities, and in supporting informed and future-oriented approaches to the development of the space sector.

About SPACETIDE

SPACETIDE is a Japan-based nonprofit organisation acting as a neutral hub for the global space industry. Through its activities, SPACETIDE supports community building, international collaboration, knowledge dissemination, people development and innovation support, with a particular focus on the evolving space economy and its broader societal and policy implications.

Joint initiatives

Under the framework of the MoU, ESPI and SPACETIDE will cooperate on a range of activities, including reciprocal participation in events, joint workshops and curated programmes, as well as contributions to each other’s publications and outreach efforts.  In particular, exchanges on regional space industry and finance dynamics will help build a shared understanding that supports broader Japan–Europe cooperation. The cooperation aims to leverage the respective expertise and networks of both organisations to foster cross-regional exchange and dialogue on topics of mutual interest.

In the near term, collaboration will focus on facilitating contributions to flagship events and policy discussions, and on strengthening connections between European and Asia-Pacific perspectives on space policy and industry development.

“At SPACETIDE, we have had the pleasure of working closely with ESPI over the years to share perspectives across Europe and the APAC Region and connect the dots on policy, investment landscape and industrial development for the space sector. This MOU marks a new stage in our relationship and a renewed commitment to pursue our joint mission in support of the industry.”

- Masayasu Ishida, President & CEO of SPACETIDE Foundation

“This MoU with SPACETIDE reflects ESPI’s commitment to engaging with global partners that are shaping the international space policy and industry landscape. By working with a platform that connects policy, markets and innovation across regions, we aim to contribute to a more inclusive and internationally informed discussion on the future of space activities.”

- Marco Aliberti, Associate Director of International Engagement, Partnerships & Education, European Space Policy Institute
