ESPI strengthens its presence in Brussels to support European decision making

In its long-term policy vision ESPI.2040: Space for Prosperity, Peace and Future Generations, ESPI set out its ambition to deepen engagement with its national and European members and to reinforce its role its role within Europe’s evolving space ecosystem. In March 2024, ESPI established an initial presence in Brussels with the support of the Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO) during the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), and begun strengthening its visibility within the EU space ecosystem.

ESPI is now pleased to announce that Research Fellow, Bianca Santi, will take on a new role as ESPI’s representative in Brussels. From 2026, Bianca will support our activities on site, deepening engagement with our members and strengthening ESPI’s contribution to EU level space policy discussions.

This step builds on the foundations established in 2024 and reflects ESPI’s continued evolution as Europe’s independent think tank for space.

ESPI is present in Brussels at an important historical moment for all European countries, and in my updated role I will continue to do my utmost to support our shaping the future of European space policy.

Bianca Santi, ESPI Representative in Brussels

This development follows a period of significant growth for ESPI. In 2025, the Institute reached a major institutional milestone in its more than 20-year history with the granting of Quasi-International Organisation status by the Austrian Government. This recognition strengthened ESPI’s mandate, its international role and its long-term institutional resilience at a time of rising demand for independent strategic advice on space policy across Europe.

With Brussels-based decision-makers now playing an increasingly influential role, expanding ESPI’s engagement in the city is a natural progression. It further positions the Institute to provide high-quality analysis, foster informed dialogue and support European decision makers as key policy frameworks evolve.
