ESPI on International Women’s Day 2026: rights, justice, action

Today, the European Space Policy Institute joins global celebrations for International Women’s Day. This year’s theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL women and girls”, reminds us that progress in the workplace and across society is built on fairness, visibility, and opportunity.

Every woman who chooses herself, plants roots in her own worth and from that strength, she becomes an inspiration to the world.

– Evelyn Obernosterer-Egger, ESPI Director of Finance and Administration

To mark the day, ESPI is highlighting some of the women who shape our Institute and contribute to Europe’s space policy landscape. Through a series of short videos, they share how they found their path into the space sector, what structures support them in their careers, and which women inspire them.

ESPI’s strength lies in its people. Our team brings together experts from a wide range of backgrounds who work in an environment that encourages collaboration, initiative, and continuous learning. This diversity of experience enriches our research, supports rigorous policy recommendations, and strengthens our engagement with stakeholders across Europe and beyond.

As of February 2025, the Institute reached a gender balance of 55 percent women and 45 percent men.

A diverse and well-supported team enables peer learning and mentorship across career stages. This is an essential part of how ESPI approaches complex policy challenges and contributes to shaping Europe’s role in space.

Showcasing the voices of our colleagues today aligns with ESPI’s broader commitment to education, outreach, and the next generation of space professionals. Their stories reflect not only their individual achievements but also the values we strive to uphold as an Institute.
